Each Nhorte Camp is the result of the collaboration of different groups of people throughout the year.
TEACHERS: This is what we call the founders and promoters of the entire Nhorte project. Free Time Directors, all of them, meet monthly, plan and evaluate each and every one of our activities.
NHORTES: What better name for monitors of our camps. Practically all of them have been first campers, and also with qualifications in our LAMA Leisure Time Training School. Their dedication and good work, witnessed by hundreds of participants each year, are also our seal of quality.
Surely, these names will be remembered forever with great affection: Guille, Elisa, Quique, Andrea, Maialen, Óscar, Edu, Lucía, Julián, Maelle, Adriana, Juan, Gelo, Claudia, Lena, Asier, Andreina, Jaime, Marina, Esther, Alex, Jorge, Teo, Zapa, Nerea, Marta, Miriam, Diego, César, Adrián, Mario, Inés, Ceci, Dani, Laura, Arantxa, Ángel, Almudena, Irene, Momo, Truji, Henar, Nuria, Wifre, Varo, Sara, Silvia, Natalia, Iker, Pilar, Camila, Raquel, Nilo, Ana, Anina, Andreíta, Marina, Nico, Rosa, Luna, Iker, Zape, Nacho, Violeta, Silvio, Chungo, Clara, Cheto…
FACTORS: These are specific collaborations of friends, or specialists, who decide to contribute their knowledge and skills to a camp or a specific activity.
CAMP SERVICES: No one is alien to the camp dynamics and every role is, therefore, at the service of the activity, but some tasks require special technical knowledge, such as :
–Kitchen: Quartermaster, Cook and Kitchen Helpers, they are specialists in the tastes and needs that each shift demands, and they manage to provide us and cook for the entire varied and tasty camp.
– Gallery: In it we treat our small discomforts or minor injuries, and we will listen to the reasons why we may feel bad at some point. In addition, specific medical assistance is provided to us at the Venta las Ranas Health Centers (4 km away), Villaviciosa (8 km away) or at the Cabueñes General Hospital, near Gijón (12 km away). of the field).
–Machinery Manager: is the person in charge of ensuring that the installation works and is clean, ready for use. It also teaches us the correct use of field material.
–Secretary: Manages the bureaucracy of the camp and the telephone, for which it has a schedule that is convenient to respect. (10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.)
PARTICIPANTS / Age Groups
But without a doubt, the main role of the camp is boys and girls. At the camp, our participants are divided into the following age groups:
- Chispas: born between 2017 and 2020 (In the 4th Shift, of fourteen days, only 7 and 8 years old).
- Cometas: born between 2013 and 2016
- Zulus: born in 2011 and 2012
- Lanzas: born in 2009 and 2010
- Ecos: born between 2007 and 2008
- Selva Negra: born between 2010 and 2008
READ THIS CAREFULLY:
All of these groups are not closed, so depending on specific circumstances – seniority and/or proximity to another age group – you can go from one to another regardless of age. But it is important that this is decided at the time of signing up, before starting each camp, for which you must consult us about any changes you want to make, we will guide you to make the best decision. Once in camp YOU CAN NO LONGER CHANGE your age group (District).
It is specially equipped for carrying out camps and leisure and free time activities.
It has different camping areas, a pavilion of rooms with bunk beds for the little ones (the Cabins), play areas, services and
showers, more than 30 different species of trees, dining room and kitchen, swimming pool, sports courts and zip line. A space, in short, that completes the idea of installation that we were pursuing when we started walking, and to which
Every year different structural improvements are added. You can get a better idea by looking at the photos we show in the FACILITIES tab of the main menu or by clicking here
The surroundings allow us to walk along forest paths, watch the sunset by the sea, bathe in different beaches and get to know typical Asturian towns with their farms, granaries and orchards.
HOW TO GET THERE BY YOUR OWN MEANS
The Nhorte Camp is located in Argüero (Municipality of Villaviciosa), in the Km. 4 of the road that goes from VENTA LAS RANAS to VILLAVICIOSA/ARGÜERO/TAZONES (if you come from Gijón on the A-8 highway, until the San Miguel de Arroes exit). On the contrary, if you come from Santander/Villaviciosa, once you arrive at EL PIDAL, you must continue in the direction of Gijón, without taking any more detour (not even that of “Argüero”, a very common mistake). You will immediately recognize the
property on which the Camp is located due to its white wall, with the red triangle of Nhorte presiding over the entrance, in the same direction you are going.

– The number of places is limited, and we will admit passengers until the places are full, at which time we will open a waiting list for those who could no longer enter.
– When you have finished completing the Registration Form on our website MAKE SURE, before validating, that you have chosen the correct option in the Trips , this way we will avoid last minute surprises.
– Once paid, in the event of suspension of the trip, the amount of the ticket will not be refunded.
– If you choose some of these trips, the amount will be added to the fee and that total will be the one that appears at the end of the registration process.
It is advisable to bring a sandwich and water so that the Incorporation trip does not feel so long.
– Remember that, to avoid unnecessary waits, we will try to observe absolute punctuality, although sometimes, depending on factors that escape us (such as traffic or any unforeseen event), you have to wait a little at one of the departure points. In any case, if you call the campa, we will keep you promptly informed of any unforeseen events.
The backpack should be packed by the camper or in their presence: it is useless to mark the clothing (highly recommended) if later they don’t know which brand they have and where it is. It is a good method to have everything that will be taken in front of you and then pack things, starting with the heaviest, in the backpack:
- Backpack (essential, except for Chispas, the small one from “school” is not enough) sleeping bag and blanket (depends on the sleeping bag).
- Insulation or “mat”.
- Sport shoes, for rain and hiking.
- Warm clothing (like a jacket).
- Plate and breakfast tank like camping (not glass), cutlery and napkin.
- T-shirts and shorts in sufficient quantity.
- Tracksuit, sweater or hoodie.
- Raincoat, poncho or waterproof cape (Essential for Asturias!).
- Swimsuit and towel.
- Sufficient number of socks.
- Toiletries.
- Sunscreen cream.
- Cap.
- Pencil case with pencils, pen, and notebook.
- Optional to bring a costume.
Upon arriving at the camp, if you are coming for the first time, we will give you a bag to store the plate and cutlery. Use it, it will help you not to lose them and to keep them clean. If you were here last year, you already have it, but if not, you can also get it when you arrive. Upon leaving, we will give you a t-shirt so you have a memory of your stay with us.
ESSENTIAL DOCUMENTATION
- ID card if you have one.
- Medical card or Social Security card and passport-sized photo.
VERY IMPORTANT
Pulguis and Chispas (5 to 8 years old) consume more clothing (especially underwear) than older children. It is advisable for them to bring a sufficient amount.
The raincoat and the rain shoes are essential, they allow you to participate in the activity normally if the typical orbayu of Asturias falls.
Based in Asturias, the Nhorte Camp facilities, a complement to a beautiful natural environment surrounded by beaches and trails, receive participants from all over Spain and other countries, mainly European, every year. Many parents, organizations and institutions have placed their trust in our activities throughout these almost 35 years of existence., in which almost 20,000 participants from the most diverse places in the world have passed through here. For those of you who choose our activities year after year, we dedicate our efforts trying to surprise you every summer with something new in our activities and facilities.

Activities and pedagogical objectives

Before signing up it is worth knowing

International camps

Summary (print edition)
When we started the Nhorte camps in 1991, it was clear to us that we wanted to become a small village where its inhabitants, boys, girls and young people, would come to play and grow up in freedom while playing. We were not interested in one-thing camps so we decided to reinvent ourselves every year, to create different universes with new fantasies in which to learn something new. And although in all these years we have done almost everything in our camps and we will continue to do so (surfing, paintball, hiking, diving, sailing, zip lines, skateboarding, sightseeing, lots of beach and sports of all kinds), we still think that our thing is to play.
We want next summer to be, once again, an opportunity to have fun with friends, to enjoy time together, in person and live. That’s why we invite you to catch up on games, races and gymkhanas, costumes, dances and dips, always in the company of those Chispas, Cometas, Zulús, Lanzas (this year there is a new district!), Ecos and Nhortes that you won’t forget, because together with them you laughed, sang and dreamed.
2025: ONIRIA, the world of dreams
Dreaming immerses us in a world of possible impossible things, a chaotic and muddled space beyond everyday experience. In dreams we fly, talk underwater or walk on the moon. The dreamer awake, once tasted the flavor of freedom without borders of the dream, is launched to the artistic creation, to the project impulse.

Beyond logic
This summer camp wants to be a meeting point for boys and girls who think that not everything is already done or written, nonconformists willing to show that there are still missing songs, paths, inventions, games, words and adventures. Dreamers ready to expand frontiers in the company of other dreamers whose fantasies should be stimulating for all of us.
Will we be able to turn our history around?
After 34 years, will we be able to add something to our bivouacs, our days at the beach, our time at the pool or our verbenas? The challenge is served.

LIFE IN THE CAMPA
In all these years we have had time to see that there are things that can only be learned in a camp, away from home, having to manage alone, and that it is noticeable when a girl or a boy has that fluency to manage having won the game to the excess of caution. These are things that last a lifetime. We have also seen boys and girls who have learned for themselves how important it is to take care of nature, make friends or collaborate in the proper functioning of a society, even if it is small and peculiar, because here we are all important.
For those of you who have never been to Camp Nhorte, here are some hints of what you will find.
✔️ Lamapoly: after breakfast this game takes place with which campers put their things in order in the tent or cabin, which will be visited and reviewed every day by the Nhortes, in the middle of fun tests.
✔️ Bath Time: at the end of the morning, and sometimes mid-afternoon, we have time for a swim in the camp pool with the Nhortes, or to take a shower and sunbathe.
✔️ Sesteando: this is the rest time after lunch, during which we can make phone calls, have a refreshment at the stall, read, take a nap or just rest.
✔️ Ateneo: in the evening, this assembly takes place with all the Groups or Districts that are in the facility. In the Ateneo everyone has the right to speak and be heard regardless of their age or the apparent interest of what they want to expose: it is only required to show respect for the word of others. This is one of the moments of the day when the magic of the Nhorte is most noticeable.
✔️ Overnight or Bivouac: every year it is the most successful activity among the elders. In this activity, Zulus, Lanzas and Ecos leave the facility with their groups to get to know the surroundings and sleep between one and three nights in different places. For the younger ones (Cometas and Chispas), this activity is more suited to their age, and it is normal for them to spend the night outside the cabin inside the facility or in a place “comfortable” for them, just for one night. We like to keep reminding them that the spirit of companionship that is experienced in each group when they return, makes the camp no longer the same.
✔️ Star activity: this is an activity with a strong tourist or multi-adventure character adapted to different ages. For this reason we can climb on a climbing wall, surfing or other water activities on the beach of Gijón, visit a zip line park, canyoning or paintball or spend a quieter day picking fruits of the forest, knowing a botanical garden or the Jurassic Museum itself.
✔️ Workshops: space that encourages the acquisition or practice of various skills ranging from making thread bracelets, or clay figures to juggling games or T-shirt printing.
✔️ Campfire: this is an exciting moment in which a special atmosphere is created. The one that ends each camp is usually unforgettable, although any night by the fire makes us feel that the camp is a different life.
✔️ Sports: in organized competitions or in a more spontaneous way, sports (basketball, volleyball, handball, soccer) are always present in our magnificent sports fields, we can also do archery, olympics…or invent new ones, like CANVAS CANVASING!
✔️ Outdoor Activities: canoeing in the estuary, canyoning, hiking, orienteering, climbing initiation… and the longest zip line in Asturias!
✔️ Verbenas: night activities in which campers wear their best clothes and dance always less than they would like; sometimes ending the party and putting people to sleep becomes a hard task.
✔️ Internal Mail: when the habit of writing letters to each other falls into disuse, internal mail reveals the special meaning contained in the words that someone has taken the trouble to draw for us.
✔️ Beach Day: by bus or on foot, we can go swimming at beaches that are true natural paradises: Rodiles, la Griega, Merón, España, la Ñora, etc.
CAMP ANIMATION COURSE (4th Session, August 1st to 14th)
✔️ 4th Session Course: Echoes, ages 17 and 18.
What is the CAC or Camp Animation Course?
This is an introductory course for those Ecos who wish in the future to become Leisure Time Instructors. The dynamics of the activity is fundamentally practical, although there are also some theoretical talks about initiation in very general topics such as Activity Planning, Outdoor Philosophy, Health Education (,) and similar. Learning to work in a group, putting creative ideas into practice or being an example for the younger ones are the main focuses of the CAC as such. Sports and nature activities are another great attraction of this call in which the bivouac or the Star Activity (descending the river Sella in a canoe or getting on a surfboard, for example), are now carried out from a different point of view.
Although the course follows a detailed program, participants are expected to help plan different activities by virtue of the independence and decision-making capacity they are given, a way of recognizing their impending status as group leaders.
Some of the participants in these courses do so with the idea of becoming Nhortes in our camps, for others it is more of an opportunity to enjoy a good activity in the company of an excellent group of friends. We hope that, in any case, it will be an opportunity for everyone to acquire new knowledge in a FUN way.
PEDAGOGICAL OBJECTIVES. Why we do it
There are objectives common to all Nhorte Camps, regardless of the theme of the year, which pay special attention to the developmental stage of each participant, to life in nature, to companionship and coexistence, and to learning to manage on one’s own. All of them will be present in our activities:
✔️Propiciar a harmonious development both affective and cognitive.
✔️ Stimulate integration and participation in groups.
✔️ Learning to live in nature, respecting it.
✔️ To grow in ways and forms of communicating with others, activating the maximum number of ways to express themselves.
✔️ To develop the capacity of observation and immediate memory.
✔️ To learn to listen, to respect the turn to speak.
✔️ To contribute and cooperate in collective tasks.
✔️ To participate in group decision making and to accept and comply with the agreements.
✔️ To take care of order, cleanliness and personal hygiene.
✔️ Maintain an optimal and polite attitude at the table.
✔️ Gaining attention and concentration.
✔️ Speak in public, in front of the whole camp, at least once.
✔️ Be introduced to the basics of the Outdoors.
✔️ Make new friends
✔️ Exercise criticism and free opinion.
✔️ Enjoy, enjoy, laugh, dream …
The specification of these objectives drives the activity plans that the Nhortes (monitors) of the camps prepare in different previous meetings, such as the Camp Meetings, the first and awaited appointment, every spring, in our Asturian facility.
EVALUATION / What is achieved
Our camps have different ways of evaluating the activity at each precise moment, as follows:
✔️ At our beloved “Camp Days”, a few months before the camps begin, the Nhortes meet to contribute their experience and ideas to that year’s camp programs, and to evaluate the results of the previous year’s camp.
their experience and ideas to the camp programs for that year, and to evaluate the results of the previous year’s camp.
✔️ At Camp, each day the results of the activity and the general state of the camp are evaluated by Districts (age groups) or with each complete team of Nhortes. This is the moment to make corrections according to the always different characteristics of each group.
✔️ During the last days of each shift, the Nhortes fill out a personalized report of each camper in which different facets of their behavior throughout the days are evaluated (personal order, hygiene, sociability, etc.). This report is sent to each home at the end of the activity. This report is sent to each home by e-mail at the end of the activity.
✔️ On the penultimate day of each Shift, participants complete an anonymous survey in which they can rate the different services of the camp and their Nhortes. This survey allows us to gauge the state of satisfaction of each camper and camper after their stay in our Camp, while guiding us on the corrections to be made in the future.
✔️ Each Nhorte team, led by the camp management, conducts an overall evaluation of the camp on the last night of each shift, which is completed at a late summer evaluation day with a little more perspective.
✔️ Finally, the Nhorte Teaching Team (the founding partners) meets in October to evaluate all aspects of the campaign. Through subsequent meetings, this team takes on new ideas for the following year.
Before Signing Up IT IS ADVISABLE TO KNOW
Registration for any of our camps implies acceptance of all the rules described below, so we ask you to read them carefully and consult with us any doubts you may have.
PHONE USE
Nhorte provides telephones for each age group, from which boys and girls can make calls at the beginning of the camp, in the middle of the camp and if necessary in the last days. The time for these calls is generally after lunch (15:30) or after the afternoon snack if there are any pending calls. They are the ones who call, since the office phone or the Director’s phone are for the correct administration of the camp and for emergencies, the only cases in which they will be attended out of office hours (10 am to 2 pm).
At the beginning of the camp it is possible that children who find it more difficult to adapt to living abroad may call you with a sad voice, it is then when they need more support and serenity from the person on the other end of the phone. If you deem it appropriate, the monitors, or the activity director, will talk to you.
Cell phones are nowadays a topic of wide debate in educational spaces, which we follow and we want you to participate in. The boys and girls who bring them to the camp will be allowed to use them on two or three occasions in order to communicate with their homes or friends outside the camp, always during nap time when the other phones are operational. The camp’s cell phone bank will make sure that they are safe. Otherwise, we will continue to argue that there are no screens more relaxing and attractive than the eyes of the faces of the friends we will make in the camp.
MEALS
The complexity of a camp means a great effort for the kitchen staff to provide a rich and varied meal, therefore, and due to the impossibility of catering for a large number of special diets, the camp cooks a full menu and a vegetarian menu, with this we hope to reach the maximum number of participants while reducing health risks to a minimum. As always, if you have any questions, please contact us.
VISITS
We are very pleased to welcome parents, mothers, and friends of the participants on the INCORPORATION and DEPARTURE days of the camp. Outside of these, visits are NOT ALLOWED; they demand all our attention.
CONTAGIOUS DISEASES
The Nhorte Management must be informed (through any of the phones provided on our website) of any health issues that may affect the rest of the Camp. But, in general, in cases of potential contagion (coronavirus, flu, parasites, etc.) it does not seem appropriate to sign up for the Camp, it is better to wait for another occasion. We trust in your wisdom and solidarity in this matter.
FUNCTIONAL PATHOLOGIES
Likewise, any type of functional pathology, sensitive medication or relevant diagnosis must be communicated in advance.
REGISTRATION SUSPENSION
When, once the registration payment has been made, the place is cancelled, Nhorte will retain 10% of the amount paid if the suspension is made up to fifteen days before the start of the activity, and the full amount of the fee if it occurs less than fifteen days before the start of the activity; in the latter case, only those exceptions that are motivated by serious cause will be considered, for which it will be necessary to send us authorized proof (medical certificate if it is for medical reasons, or similar).
In order to facilitate your plans, we remind you that those participants who make use of the FRACTIONARY PAYMENT modality, will not be retained any amount in case of suspension of the place, and the amount paid up to that moment will be returned FULL.
TRAVEL BY BUS
If you choose to travel in one of our buses, you must reserve and pay for it when you have firmly decided, since the web will offer you this possibility until full seats are available, after that moment this option will be blocked. For those who could run out of places, we will open a waiting list and we will notify you immediately as soon as new places become available. Once the ticket has been booked and paid, in case of cancellation the amount will not be refunded.

INSTITUTION PARTICIPANTS
Before registration, institutions wishing to reserve a spot must contact the Nhorte Management, which will evaluate each case for participation.
TURN CHANGE
If you have already signed up but, for any reason, want to change your session, no problem, just let us know with sufficient notice, and we will make the change, provided there are available spots in the new session, of course.
OTHER MATTERS OF INTEREST
BACKPACK OR SUITCASE. The backpack has always characterized the people who participate in camps (not the school one, a camping one, there are sizes). It is essential for those who go bivouacking, when you have to take with you things to spend a couple of nights away from the camp and on beach days when you have to take your towel and a few other things.
However, in the last few years some people prefer to come with a suitcase because they organize themselves better in the tent or in the cabin and although it is less camping, it is not a bad idea either.
Remember that you will surely get a lot of use out of a backpack, because we hope that this Camp will infect you with the love for the outdoors and camping in general. Value everything.
RAIN JACKET OR SIMILAR and APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR. Essential to continue activities when there is light rain, here called “orbayu.”
CARE OF COMMON MATERIAL AND BEHAVIOR. We want you to feel at home here, so we expect you to take care of things like you would at home. We must warn that intentional damage to belongings or camp facilities, as well as undesirable behavior, are serious offenses that would require us to contact parents/guardians, and if deemed necessary by the activity director, to send you home early from any of our camps, at a cost that those who registered you would have to bear. Have fun and BRING OUT THE BEST IN YOURSELF!
LUGGAGE. For your convenience, we strongly recommend saving space in your luggage and avoiding anything that is not really necessary for camp; likewise, Nhorte is not responsible for any prohibited contents (alcoholic beverages, potentially dangerous items, perishable foods, etc.).
SLEEPING. One of the most frequently asked questions is about where we sleep. Well, at camp, naturally, in tents, yes, equipped with PVC flooring, thick insulation, and a mattress. For the younger ones, we have cabins with bunk beds, where, for their age, they are better organized with their belongings.
OUR WEBSITE. We advise you to occasionally, and especially in the days before your Camp Session begins, take a look at our website (www.nhorte.com), as it is a very useful tool to receive last-minute changes or news that may interest you. We also provide our space on Facebook, X and Instagram (Campamento Nhorte), where, besides keeping you informed of our camp adventures and showing you photos of it almost daily, you can participate by leaving your comments.
INTERNATIONAL CAMPS
Black Forest (Germany)
ICBF 2025
Our camp in the Black Forest, which will be the 28th camp we have held there, is scheduled for August 3-18, 2025. The dates are a little different every year because they depend on the school vacations in Germany.
On the Spanish side, we will come with a group of 25 participants from 15 to 17 years old, which is sometimes extended later on. Due to a long-standing cooperation with the Junta de Castilla y León, 20 of these places will most probably be offered through the Instituto de la Juventud de Castilla y León. At the camp in Waldshut-Schmitzingen, our nearest locations, we will meet a group of young Germans and maybe again a group of Greeks.
The program aims at the coexistence of boys and girls from different cultures, who share activities such as initiation to climbing, hiking, swimming in local pools, discovery of towns and cities such as Constanta, as well as other activities within the camp, sports and entertainment, with which we will try to break the ice first and then create bonds.
The ICBF (International Camp Black Forest) has managed to become after 27 years a camp with its own identity, so we invite you to ask us for more information if you are curious about this adventure.

The International Camp Spain for the Lanzas (born in 2009 and 2010) will also take place from August 1st to 14th. Our Nhorte City becomes multicultural during these days, and the German boys and girls will not only open our eyes to their customs, but will also allow us to practice the noble art of being a good host.
So, get ready to practice your English or what you know of German, and come and make new friends from a European continent becomes more ours with activities like this.
